Hardcovers have endpapers between the cover and the text. Half of the paper is glued to the cover, and the other half is free floating. All printing begins on the right hand page after the endpaper.
In addition to the endpaper, paperbacks and hardcovers may have blank pages at the back of the book. These pages at the end of a book are a result of how the sheets of paper are folded and bundled in the book binding process.
