You can make a title available for pre-order up to 12 months in advance of your publication date for eBooks and 6 months for Print Books. You have the option to skip uploading your interior file until your final files are ready. Just upload your pre-order cover, which will be shown on your book's product page on BN.com.
You can continue to make changes to your book during the pre-order period. If you need to change the list price of a pre-order you can do so. Customers will be charged the list price recorded at the time they pre-ordered the title.
Your book will go on sale automatically on the publication date you select. There is no need to manually publish the project.
Uploading Final Interior and Cover Files
For eBooks, we recommend that you upload your final cover image and interior no less than 72 hours before the publication date. On the publication date, the final manuscript gets delivered to customers and their pre-order will turn into a sale. Pre-orders will not be reflected as a sale on your dashboard until the publication date.
For Print Books, you must upload your final interior and cover files at least 10 business days before the publication date. If you're unable to do so, you must push your publication date, or your book will go off sale. Customers who pre-order your book will not receive your book until after the publication date has been reached. The book will be shipped on the publication date and the customer will be charged the list price you set. You will then see the sale reflected in your Sales Reports.
Tracking Your Orders
Once your book is available for pre-order on BN.com, you can check the pre-order report under the Sales Reports tab to track how many customers have pre-ordered your book. Once your publication date arrives, those pre-orders will turn into Recent Sales, and then appear on your Monthly Sales reports.
Book Size and Printing Cost Changes
When selecting your book size and type, please remember that the printing cost is based on the estimated page count you selected. If your actual page count surpasses the estimated page count, your printing cost will change, thus affecting your royalty earned.
