Reporting
In your Sales Reports, the Sale Price column will show you books that were purchased with a BOGO promotional discount off the original List Price. There will be separate rows totaling the number of sales per title purchased at a given Sale Price, e.g., 2 sales at $5.99 and 1 sale at 2.99. This view is available via the View Report option under Sales Reports.
Here is an example of how the BOGO calculation works:
Example #1: Buy One, Get One FREE
• Book 1 of the BOGO is priced at $5.99
• Book 2 of the BOGO is priced at $4.99
• Customer buys Book 1 at $5.99, gets Book 2 for Free.
• Before BOGO discount, the Customer’s Order Total would be = $10.98
• After the BOGO is applied, the Order Total is discounted by $4.99, making the new discounted total $5.99, or 45% off the original order total.
To understand how much an Author earns from each title, you have to calculate the discount percentage (%) applied to each title in the order.
Here’s the formula:
X% off each BOGO title = Total Discount in $ / Original Order Total in $
Ex: Total Discount of $4.99 (Book 2 that was FREE for the customer) / Original Order Total of $10.98 = 45% off
Ex: Total Discount of $4.99 (Book 2 that was FREE for the customer) / Original Order Total of $10.98 = 45% off
Royalties Earned:
Book 1: $5.99 x 45% off discount = $2.70 off original price. Thus, $5.99 - $2.72 off = $3.29, the effective promo price of Book 1.
Author earns $3.29 x 70% royalty rate = $2.30
Author earns $3.29 x 70% royalty rate = $2.30
Book 2: $4.99 x 45% off discount = $2.25 off original price. Thus, $4.99 – $2.25 off = $2.74, the effective promo price of Book 2.
Author earns $2.74 x 70% royalty rate = $1.92.
Author earns $2.74 x 70% royalty rate = $1.92.
Example #2:
• Customer purchases 3 BOGO titles priced at Book 1 at $4.99, Book 2 at $3.99 and Book 3 at $2.99
• Customer buys B1 at $4.99 and B2 at $3.99, gets B3 for Free (Discount is based on lowest priced title).
• Before BOGO discount, the Customer’s Order Total would be = $11.97
• After the BOGO is applied, the Order Total is discounted by the free title B3 $2.99, making the new discounted total $8.98, or 25% off the original order total.
Applying the same formula as above, we’ll calculate the discount percentage (%) applied to each title in the order.
Here’s the formula:
X% off each BOGO title = Total Discount in $ / Original Order Total in $
Ex: Total Discount of $2.99 (B3 FREE for the customer) / Original Order Total of $11.97 = 25% off
Royalties Earned:
Book 1: $4.99 x 25% off discount = $1.25 off original price. Thus, $4.99 - $1.25 off = $3.74, the effective promo price of Book 1.
Author earns $3.74 x 70% royalty rate = $2.62
Author earns $3.74 x 70% royalty rate = $2.62
Book 2: $3.99 x 25% off discount = $1.00 off original price. Thus, $3.99 – $1.00 off = $2.99, the effective promo price of Book 2.
Author earns $2.99 x 70% royalty rate = $2.09.
Author earns $2.99 x 70% royalty rate = $2.09.
Book 3: $2.99 x 25% off discount = $0.75 off original price. Thus, $2.99 – $0.75 off = $2.24, the effective promo price of Book 3.
Author earns $2.24 x 70% royalty rate = $1.57.
Author earns $2.24 x 70% royalty rate = $1.57.
Example #3:
• Customer purchases 4 BOGO titles priced at Book 1 at $4.99, Book 2 at $3.99, Book 3 at $2.99 and Book 4 at $1.99.
• Customer buys B1 at $4.99 and B2 at $3.99, gets B3 and B4 for Free.
• Before BOGO discount, the Customer’s Order Total would be = $13.96
• After the BOGO is applied, the Order Total is discounted by the free titles (B3 $2.99 + B4 $1.99 = $4.98), making the new discounted total $8.98, or 36% off the original order total.
Applying the same formula as above, we’ll calculate the discount percentage (%) applied to each title in the order.
Here’s the formula:
X% off each BOGO title = Total Discount in $ / Original Order Total in $
Ex: Total Discount of $4.98 (B3 + B4 FREE for the customer) / Original Order Total of $13.96 = 36% off
Royalties Earned:
Book 1: $4.99 x 36% off discount = $1.78 off original price. Thus, $4.99 - $1.78 off = $3.21, the effective promo price of Book 1.
Author earns $3.21 x 70% royalty rate = $2.25
Author earns $3.21 x 70% royalty rate = $2.25
Book 2: $3.99 x 36% off discount = $1.42 off original price. Thus, $3.99 – $1.42 off = $2.57, the effective promo price of Book 2.
Author earns $2.57 x 70% royalty rate = $1.80.
Author earns $2.57 x 70% royalty rate = $1.80.
Book 3: $2.99 x 36% off discount = $1.07 off original price. Thus, $2.99 – $1.07 off = $1.92, the effective promo price of Book 3.
Author earns $1.92 x 70% royalty rate = $1.34.
Author earns $1.92 x 70% royalty rate = $1.34.
Book 4: $1.99 x 36% off discount = $0.71 off original price. Thus, $1.99 – $0.71 off = $1.28, the effective promo price of Book 4.
Author earns $1.28 x 70% royalty rate = $0.90.
Author earns $1.28 x 70% royalty rate = $0.90.
